What's up my friend?

I have news for you.

Discipline isn’t fun, BUT what it gets you is…

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.
— Jim Rohn

We all want success but we go about it in different ways.

We pursue money, fame, relationships, status, power, health, etc…

Our business, or livelihood, is a search for happiness. We don’t actually want dolla dolla bills…we what it will get us, or what we think it will get us.

As Gary Tan says: “We don’t really want things. We want the feelings we think those things will give us.”

We are emotional creatures.

In sales, the goal is to get a prospect to make an emotional decision and purchase a product or service. All humans buy with emotion first and then back it up with logic.

Why do you think “retail therapy” is a real thing? It’s emotional!

Here’s more on the topic of emotional sales.

I’ve got news for you though, happiness is a daily decision, not a destination.

We’ve been lied to in our society and told that when we get to a destination we will be happy. For example: When I get a new car, a house, the perfect significant other…THEN I will be happy.

The problem is it doesn’t work that way.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. It’s the same way with happiness. We decide to be happy and then we find it, not the other way around.

Can I be vulnerable for a minute with you?

I’ve had a rough month.

As an entrepreneur there are many ups and downs. My biggest challenge has been consistent cash flow and knowing where my money is going. I’ve been relatively successful, but had no plan or systems for my business.

This may sound like a good thing because I haven’t quit (which I will never do), but a  business without plans and systems is just a hobby.

So I need to change. To quote Jim Rohn again: “We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.”

Remember, discipline isn’t fun, but what it gets you is, and I have big goals to accomplish this year!

So in order to get what I want, I need discipline in my finances and systems because it’s the bridge between goals and results.

Guess what, this applies to every facet of life.

There’s no such thing as a “self-made" man or woman.

If you want different results, you must take different actions and it’s ok to need help with this.

I’m ready for change in 2018, and so I hired a personal budgeting coach.

Step 1 done.

The biggest challenge you face is the one you are currently facing. Don’t believe the lie that your challenges aren’t important, or any less that someone else's.

The cool thing is that we have the ability to take action and change whatever we need to change.

I know from experience, taking action is easier said than done. The good news is that there are a couple “secrets” that will help you shift your focus from negative to positive.

One of my favorites is fitness.

Motion creates emotion, and it’s impossible to feel bad after a workout because every time you workout you are becoming the best version of yourself.

Remember we find happiness through personal growth and contribution. Health is the highest form of happiness and happiness is the highest form of health.

Don’t get me wrong, money will definitely buy happiness for a short time, but it’s not a state of being. Obviously we need some level of resources to live a full life, and like they say “Have you ever seen anyone sad riding a jet ski?”.

The amazing thing is that you can decide to be happy right at this moment, no matter what we are going through!

However, it takes action and shifting your focus.

I used this “secret" last week. I was having a rough week and scheduled a spin class with a couple friends, because I didn’t “feel” like working out.

We are all inherently lazy and sometimes we need to help to ensure success.

During my class, I had the thought pop into my head: “Decide to be happy.”, and I’m so glad I listened.

Immediately, I felt something shift and my mood went from negative to positive and has been positive ever since.

Here's some tips to ensure success in fitness:

  1. Hire a trainer.

  2. Book a group fitness class.

  3. Get a friend for family member to workout with.

  4. Do all 3!

It’s amazing how working out opens up your brain!!!

A study of 80 business executives was done, and they found that a 30 minute workout enabled them to make big decisions 70% better.

Happiness is a choice and it stems from our daily choices. This enables us to take care of ourselves emotionally, financially, and physically.

So remember, discipline is the bridge between what you want and your results.

Focus on the outcome and if you need to shift your focus, get a workout in!!!

I believe in you.

Your Friend,

Nate
